Luis Lapique was born on September 15th, 1972 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He graduated from the Universidad Católica del Uruguay (1995) with an attorney at law degree.

In 1997 he attended the University of Iowa in Iowa, USA where he obtained his Master of Laws (LLM), taking different courses related to with business law: Securities, M&As, International Finance, Corporations, Commercial Transactions, International Business Transactions and Business Planning.

He worked for Deloitte & Touche Uruguay since 1995 to 2005, as head of the business law area, acting as counsel for local and international companies in different areas of law: M&As, Due Diligence process, negotiation of commercial agreements (distribution, franchising, shareholders, financial, etc.), shareholder meeting, private bonds issues, investment funds, tax issues, etc.

Lapique is the partner in charge of the legal practice of the firm related with corporate and tax issues as well as commercial agreements.

He specializes in mergers and acquisitions, corporate issues and family businesses. He was distinguished in 2014 a leading individual in these areas by Chambers & Partners.

Since 1996 he has taught corporation and commercial law classes at different universities and still teaches corporate law at the ORT University in the Masters in Accounting, Tax and Finance for accountants.

In 2004 he published his first book titled Corporations and Legal Capital, in 2008 he published Corporation and Shareholders and he is also the author of The Shares of the Corporation (2010) and his last book published in 2012 is the General Guide on Corporations.

He has published different articles related with corporate law and has participated as speaker in many local and international seminars. He teaches courses on corporations and mergers and acquisitions at the Uruguayan Bar Association for his Uruguayan colleagues.
